Music Monday~

Breaking the silence of our blog with an up-to-date post about some k-pop.

We had a lot of other songs picked out for this post but it only makes sense that we write about this one seeing as it keeps popping up in just about every class. It's inevitable because every time we:

  • spell something with a double "T";

  • say the word "twice";

  • mention the word "cry"

  • or say "you're/ that's so mean!"

this song gets brought up by our students. Although it can totally veer a classroom discussion off topic it is a pretty catchy song. Besides, how can we get mad at our adorable students when they do the dance?

Let's take it back to our first couple of months teaching... Alex was told by one of his students that there was a Korean pop group named "Twice" because they have beautiful voices and faces. We both thought that hilariously presumptuous and automatically assumed it was a boy band. Skip to a couple months in the future and we discover they're actually a girl group with this song that every student, no matter the age, seem to know.

Essentially, "TT" is supposed to be the emoticon "T__T", which signifies crying or being upset. We have also been told that "neomuhae" translates to something along the lines of "you're so mean".

The girl group itself is composed of nine cutesy members who broke the scene in 2015.

Here's the lil' tune by TWICE (트와이스) for you.
