Our Trip to Geoje (거제도)

As September and Chuseok come to an end, we wanted to make a highlights reel of our trip to Geoje-do. Albeit, this was after much googling of "good places to go during the busiest time of the year in South Korea". We didn't want to go back to Seoul right away and wanted a last beach trip before the season ended. After much indecisiveness of deciding where to go for Chuseok (similar holiday to Thanksgiving) aka wanting to stay local or go abroad, we chose Geoje.

According to VisitKorea, "Geojedo Island is Korea's second largest island [after Jeju-do] with breathtaking scenery [...] which boasts the bulk of the South Sea's tourist attractions."

So, we hopped on an intercity bus to Busan (Sasang Station) and another to Geoje (those run about every 30 minutes). From there, we made our way to Wahyeon Beach. The airBNB we were staying at was close to the beach and had a stunning view. The owners themselves were super nice and were going to be away visiting family for the weekend, seeing as it was Chuseok, Basically until the end of the weekend we essentially had the whole place to ourselves.

Now, the only downside was that this area isn't super packed. Not much restaurants, etc. But the one place we went to, the elderly couple were very sweet. We still didn't know how to read Hangul yet and they tried their hardest to help. It was a good first night.

The next day, we joined the Waegook Travel tour bus to see Sinseondae (신선대 전망대) and Windy Hill (바람의 언덕). The bus picked us up in front of our airBNB and gathered all the other waegooks at Gujora for a quick ride over. It was super hot that day and of course I got motion sick on the drive through the mountains. However, the sights made up for it. They were beautiful. Again, because of Chuseok, the tourist spots were bustling with lots of Koreans taking it all in as well.

At Sinseondae, we learnt that "Sinseon" translates to "supernatural beings" or "gods", there's a saying that the view is so beautiful that is attracts gods. Most Koreans come to this area to make a wish. From this point you can see lots of other surrounding islands. It was a sight to see.

After an early morning, we hunted around for a place to eat back at Wahyeon Beach. Finding salvation in one of the hotel's bars, we paid for an overpriced but delicious burger. Then we laid on the basically empty beach all day long. Once we bought out all of the microwavable food at the GS, we watched some TV and fell asleep to the ocean waves.

The next day we took advantage of our airBNB's coupons and hopped on the ferry to Oedo Botania Island (외도 보타니아-해상관광농원). From the travel guides, we learnt that this couple planted over 3,000 types of plants on this island. It was another hot day but the sights were breathtaking (because they were beautiful but also the hike). The island itself is very scenic but the added tropical flowers made it all the better. You could feel the love and care that the couple put into their hardwork. After that, back to the beach.

That night we wandered around Okpo and had some delicious chicken, cheese and rice dish.

On our last day, the torrential downpour started. Luckily, we were leaving since it would've been a day spent inside. Our airBNB owners were so kind and drove us back to the Geoje bus terminal. From there we stopped off at Shinsegae, for the giant food court (obviously!), and then headed back home.

All in all, it was a good first trip outside of Seoul. Although we couldn't do any ATV-ing, like originally planned, it definitely was a great way to relax. You can just tell that the people living there have a very island mentality and are very relaxed. I would definitely go back, just for Oedo Island
